Day 4 - Canoeing and Bellboating

On the waters again!
We set off on the familiar route back to Fairlop Waters where we straight away put on our wet suits and buoyancy aid and headed down to the water.
First of all we were put into groups of three and climbed into our canoe. There was mixed emotions as we stepped into the canoe because it rocked from side to side. Screams of horror were heard as each group climbed in.
When all groups managed to get going Andy (our instructor)asked us to join our canoes together and hold them tightly together in a long line.. Lava and Kazys had to run from each end of the line of canoes and back to their seat. Although we were all very cold we all enjoyed the games on the water. Fortunately no one fell in!!!!

Here are some photos to see how much fun we had.

Hold on tight Mr Bowsher!!

The pods which are covered in paper mache are being left to dry out before being fixed onto the model of the London Eye.

More help has been recruited to help with the model.

What brilliant artists we have at Manford.

Day 2 - Fairlop Waters

Day 2 - Sailing at Fairlop Waters

Today we went to Fairlop Waters to take part in sailing activities.
The children felt a mixture of feelings, some of excitement, anticipation and fear!

On the way to Fairlop Waters, there were many questions and discussion about falling in the water! When we arrived at Fairlop Waters, we were met by Georgie, Chris and Mike, our instructors for the day. They spoke to us about safety and what we would be doing throughout the day. Once we had changed into our wet suits, we were given instructions to rig up the sail and place the udder in the correct position. We were then left on our own to steer the boat from one end of the lake to the other. We all did very well and managed to stay on course!

At the end of the day, there was time left for us to enjoy a ride in the speed boat. It was a great day, as you can see from the pictures below. We can't wait to return there on Thursday!!

Day 1 - A trip into London

Year 6 enjoy a London experience!

Monday, the 8th of February was the beginning of a fun filled Activity Week for some of the children in Year 6.

The morning started off a little damp and cold, however, this did not dampen the spirits of the Year 6 children and adults!
We made our way after registration to the tube station for our journey to the London Eye and IMAX Cinema.
As we were walking to the tube, the children (not the adults), were pleasantly surprised to see SNOW!!! The tube ride to Embankment was full of hightened conversation about what to expect from the day ahead.
The London Eye proved a great success! The children could not believe that we were actually moving as it went round so slowly and at the highest point, we were 135metres in the air!
We were lucky enough to have a guide for our journey to point out all the interesting places that we have in London and also a great number of historical facts.
As it was still snowing, we made our way to the IMAX Cinema early to have our lunch in the warmth!
When we went into the auditorium, we were all given HUGE glasses to wear (see pictures below!) which the children found so amusing! The children loved the film, Dinosaurs. Some children and even the adults jumped out of their seats a few times when the dinosaurs came towards us!

The day was a great success and I am sure most of the children will be in bed early tonight as we made them walk quite far!
Pictures of the day!
